“Success is not key to happiness. Happiness is key to success." (Schweitzer)

Success is not key to happiness. Happiness is key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. (Albert Schweitzer, 1875-1965)

Schweitzer is well known as a doctor who dedicated his life to service in Africa, but he was also a highly respected Protestant theologian, pastor, and a skilled professional pipe organist. He was born in Alsace-Lorraine, a region between France and Germany. Originally of German nationality, he became a French citizen after Alsace was incorporated into France following World War I.

In 1913, he moved with his wife, who was a nurse, to Lambaréné in French Equatorial Africa (now Gabon), where he devoted himself to providing medical care to the local people. The locals referred to Schweitzer as "Oganga" (wizard), and he was admired as a great figure and a saint of the jungle, earning global respect. Albert Einstein once said that Schweitzer was the one great man living in this miserable world. In 1952, Schweitzer was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and he used the prize money to establish a leper colony in Africa.

I would like to share a few other famous quotes similar to Schweitzer’s words:

"The only way to do great work is to love what you do." (Steve Jobs)

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work another day in your life." (Mark Twain)

"The greatest work is done by those who love their work." (Henry Ford)

I’ll conclude by introducing three more inspiring quotes from Schweitzer:

"Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory."

"Do something for somebody every day for which you do not get paid."

"The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve."
